VTLCI Classes Cancelled Friday, January 18

VTLCI classes are canceled on Friday, January 18, due to the snow storm and cold temperatures. All staff and faculty administrators are expected to report for regular work hours unless the university closes or delays opening. Note that even if VTLCI classes are cancelled, employees are expected to report to work their normal schedules unless the university closes. Please review the other information on this site to help prepare for the cold and snowy conditions these next few days.

PRECAUTIONS FOR WINTER WEATHER

Cold weather, snow and ice are normal for Virginia in the winter months, but can be dangerous without preparation.

Dress warmly.
Make sure you have a flashlight, candles and plenty of blankets at home in case you lose power.
Keep at least three days of food on-hand. If we have a large snowstorm, shops may be closed and/or it may be difficult to travel.

Do not use kerosene heaters indoors; carbon monoxide released by kerosene heaters can cause death.
Take a bus to classes. Driving can be dangerous, especially if you are not used to winter conditions.
Parking can also be difficult when there is too much snow on the ground.
Do not stay in your home if you have no heat. If you lose power at home, you may want to stay with friends or in a hotel.
Stay in touch with classmates.
